_Įdit, to give a more straight answer: RIP one of your more complex, well mastered, perfect quality album with EAC into and do some A-Bing. It's your decision whether the amount of improvement worth all the hassle of re-RIPing 400 CDs.

You may also want to go through the settings using your common sense (or google).Įdit, to give a more straight answer: RIP one of your more complex, well mastered, perfect quality album with EAC into and do some A-Bing. It may seems like an overkill first, but simply follow what it says. Best RIPs are made by EAC, no doubt here. Now it's possible you'll find the difference marginal, but storage is dirty cheap, so there's really no reason to go below 320 (CBR), which is the best out of commonly accepted mp3 compressions (some may argue, but it is).

320 and FLAC wound be hard, but possible I think. Your setup is a more of gamer one than musical, but I think it's good enough to tell the difference with some (blind) A-B-ing (foobar can do it) between 128Kbps and 320Kbps. Yes, cymbals are good example of it, but not the only one. Well it's a bit hard to describe why low bitrate sounds bad without going into "scientific" details so let's just say it sounds more artificial. I don't wish to rekindle discussions about the subject, I just want objective opinions of what's best in my case, since all of this seems to be best discussed on a case by case basis. All I want is to do so in the best possible way, which is the same to say with the best possible quality. If the answer is along the lines of "Given your sound system, and the devices you use to ear music it's worth it because you'll notice a big difference", then what's the best (debatable for sure) lossy bitrate and program to do so? I don't intend on ripping them to FLAC, just to MP3. Should I re-rip my entire cd collection? More specifically, will I notice any difference if I do so? Most of my stuff is in 128KBps (yes I know I'll get beaten for saying this!) and ripped with an old codec, so if I'm up to the gigantic task of re-ripping 400 cds it better be worth all the trouble! Now after much reading and investigating, and given some stuff I learned recently about sound, I'm currently facing a dilemma. So my point is, I think that for starters I have a good sound output (not bragging just placing the basis for the questions). For my Ipod I use the Sennheiser CX 300-II earphones.
#BEST MP3 ENCODER V0 PC#
I have a good sound system on my pc with an X-Fi Extreme Music with the EQ all tweaked up, speakers are Logitech Z-3000 2.1 with a range from 20Hz to 20KHz. Frankly I'm beginning to get tired of reading opinions (plus no one mentions metal on all this pages) and instead wanted informed opinions, and I thought that this could be a good place. There are so many studies/forums/debates/opinions about which bitrate/lossy vs lossless/mp3 vs flac pages online that it's really hard to get and idea of what's true and what's biased opinions. Ok first of all let me justify this thread.
